- Race Officer Duties
Each club member has been assigned at least one Sunday race day as Race Officer. More experienced sailors have more than one, if you wish to do more please see club officers.
On Race day the RO will arrange/organize either themselves or co-opt other members to position the Start Box, take rescue boat to the lake edge, take launch ramp to lake edge, and ensure they returned to the shed at the end of sailing , making club officers aware of any unsafe equipment and the battery level on the electric outboard.
As RO you have the option of setting the course either yourself in the rescue boat or co-opt a member to either follow your mark layout or you can co-opt the total course layout. Once course layout is final the RO controls the start of each heat, it is up to each RO if they wish to compete as well, but priority is on controlling the starts.
The nominated RO for the day, if they are unable to attend, it is their responsibility to contact another member to stand in for them, or contact club secretary.
- Handicap Lanyard Event
Richard McNeilly has kindly provided the lanyards. The handicap is by adding elastic lanyards to the keel fin which slows the boat down. Fast Boats get more lanyards with the aim to get all boats at the same speed .
At the end of each race the first 25% boats get an extra lanyard and the bottom 25% boats have one taken off.
Event winner will be first boat over the line in the last race.
- Handicap Clock Event
There are three of these events on the calendar as a trial. The handicap each boat gets is a time advantage at the start line. With a start clock of 2 or 3 minutes counting down . Slow boats may start 120 seconds from race start and fast boat may start 30 seconds , these times are initially seeded.
At the end of each race the first 25% boats get an extra 10 seconds taken off their time so start closer to zero and the bottom 25% boats have 10 seconds added on so they start earlier than last race.
Event winner will be first boat over the line in the last race. The handicap standings at the end of the event will be carried over to the next Handicap event.
